Satoshi Nakamoto is thae name used by a person or group of people who created the cryptocurrency Bitcoin and wrote the original white paper describing how it works. Satoshi Nakamoto’s real name (and identity) is unknown and his mysterious persona is shrouded in a thick fog of speculation and conspiracy theories. October 2008 Nakamoto published the Bitcoin whitepaper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” on a cryptography mailing list.
January 2009 The Bitcoin network came into existence with Nakamoto mining the genesis block of Bitcoin (Block 0).
January 2009 Nakamoto released the first version of the Bitcoin software and launched the network by mining the first block of the chain, known as the ‘genesis block’ or ‘block 0’.
January 2009 The first transaction of Bitcoin took place. The recipient was Hal Finney, who received 10 BTC from Satoshi.
December 2010 Nakamoto’s involvement with the Bitcoin project came to an end. His last known communication in Bitcoin-related matters was with a Bitcoin developer.
April 2011 In a final email to a software developer, Satoshi stated that he had “moved on to other things” and that Bitcoin was “in good hands with Gavin [Andresen] and everyone”.
